How would you feel if you could FaceTime your physician about medical or personal health issues? I know some of you are worried about privacy and HIPAA, but this problem has been solved! FaceTime is HIPAA-compliant and encrypted through the WPA2 Enterprise configuration which provides an extra level of authentication when establishing a wireless connection. This will give patients the highest level of assurance that their information will remain protected when they send and receive communications over a Wi-Fi network connection. I find this idea very interesting because you can talk to your physician from the comfort of your own home if you had a question or a concern. You no longer have to make an appointment and then go to the doctor's office just to play a long waiting game before seeing him or her for a quick 15 minutes. I know plenty of people dislike going to their doctors because they hate to wait, and I am definitely one of these people. Plus, FaceTime is just so convenient and easy to use! The article I read states, "FaceTime has the potential to broaden the exchange of information among physicians, provide greater convenience to patients, and improve the quality of patient care. The assurance of a secure connection may prompt more physicians to adopt iPads in practice for communication as well as other uses." I am looking forward to seeing this in the future because I think it has great potential for success. What do you guys think? Is it a bad idea or a good one? Let me know your thoughts and check out the article I got the information from.
I think that its a great idea. I mean don’t like to sit at the office and wonder if I'm next. This would give me the flexibility to arrange the day how i need it and not around the appointment. But I curious as to how the billing would work for this and how willing are the physicians to such a dramatic change in the way how they see their patients. I wouldn’t be surprised if some patient would blog about how their doctor hung up on them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kirill and you Sandy. The FaceTime with your doctor sounds like a great idea. I know the whole idea will provide a great potential for convenience and maybe a better compliance with many patients. The billing aspect I think I will be a great concern with this idea as well. How will doctors bill their patients? Money rules the world, and I can foresee that the billing aspects could be a problem.
ReplyDeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. I agree with both of you guys about the billing aspect of this. Everything comes with its own price, but I think the convenience of this will possibly outweigh the costs. If the patients don't actually come into the doctor's office, then it shouldn't have to cost as much right? We will just have to see how this plays out and if it will ever be possible to do this in the future.

I was just about to post this!!! It's a great idea, but the privacy is still an issue for me. I still believe that a doctor should psychical see their patients. Call me old fashion, but that's how I feel. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a great idea since it will be more convenient to patients if they are too busy or far away from the location. However, I still agree with Monica that it depends on the case because in some cases, the presence of patients are required in order to better diagnose them. As melvin said, I am also concerned with the billing aspects. Nonetheless, if certain criteria for selection of the patients is made then this will make a FaceTime much better system.
ReplyDeleteI think this is great! I don't like going to the doctor's office at all, especially because there are so many sick people in the waiting room so I feel like I might catch something so this would be perfect for me! I wonder if we could Skype with doctors, too.
